Abstract:	In Indonesian waters there are lots of underwater archaeological remains from the World War II period. Battles between Japanese forces and Allied Powers occurred at that time in Western Indonesia to Eastern Indonesia. Marine archaeological researches conducted in 2012 by Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries in West Sumatra and North Molluccas found shipwrecks and wreckage of aircraft from WWII. From diving activities, it is known that the archaeological remains at Mandeh Bay West Sumatra is a shipwreck with dimension 72 x 11 x 3m. Based on the archives study, we know that there is a Dutch cargo ship, MV Boelongan Nederland, which was bombed by Japanese aircraft in Mandeh Bay in 1942. This paper would also discuss underwater WWII remains found in North Halmahera such as Japanese shipwrecks and wreckage of aircraft which were bombed by the Allied Powers. These wreckages if preserved and managed in a proper way, there would be a possibility for these to be developed as a sustainable marine-heritage destination and that would also benefit the local community.
