Abstract: In Quaternary geological surveys presently being undertaken in Thailand and other southeast Asian countries, the emphasis lies on the drawing of reliable maps of the recent deposits. Sometimes more detailed investigations are being conducted, with the purpose of pinpointing valuable deposits. A thorough understanding of the present day coastal environments is crucial to an efficient mapping effort. In this paper, a review will be given of a common coastal setting, the mezotidal lagoonal/barrier/tidal inlet coast, an environment common along many of the coasts of Thailand and other Southeast Asian countries.
