In 1818, Payen saw and drew, among other things, the statue of a personality known as Ki Santri. It was situated on the edge of the road to Mount Guntur, between Talaga Bodas and Garut. In 1872, Van Kinsbergen, publishing his Catalogue of Antiquities of Java, made the photo no. 36, at the sacred place of Sukaraja. In 1990, on the occasion of the Second Seminar of Sundanese Studies, an exhibition brought together some archaeological sacred objects among which a great statue originating from a sacred place near Ciamis. The similitude between Payen's drawing, Van Kinsbergen's picture and the exhibited statue is evident. Three questions arise about this statue: 1. where is its original site and why did it move three times, during the last 172 years
2. what is the date of the statue
and 3. whom does it depict.
