The 1994 systematic survey in the Old City of Vat Phu - Champassak (Southern Laos) allowed us to identify as well as to measure and situate precisely about 30 monuments belonging to the Pre-Angkorian period (mainly temples with a water pond), sometimes associated with brick cooking sites, among which one, situated near the Nong Saphang complex, was partly excavated. There was no evidence of a constructed oven, and the technique used seems to have been open-air firing, which is still in use nowadays. Finds were mainly distorted, overfired bricks, some of which were also used in the construction of one of the monuments of the Nong Saphang complex.
