Abstract: <p>Colored, blown glass fragments from two ninth century sites on opposite sides of the Kra Isthmus of Thailand have been analyzed for 17 elements by inductively coupled plasma methods. Most samples have a mixed alkali matrix (medium proportions of K2O), although a few have the standard soda-lime matrix. Many samples also have very high levels of CaO and A12O3 that may have conveyed stability. The blue, green, yellow, and violet colors come from significant amounts of Co, Cu, Fe, and Mn. Attempts to cluster the entire ensemble of samples resulted in groupings based only on color, and exclusion of specific colorants was not effective. Cluster analysis of single-color groups, however, led to separation between the two sites for the majority of samples.</p>
