Abstract:	pg 139 The examples of the present-day hunting and gathering people of Thailand's forests and coasts demonstrate that survival depends not so much on elaborate technologies or political systems, but in finding an econiche in which a group can hold its own with minimal competition. However, the disadvantage of specialization is that a community becomes dependent upon a particular set of conditions and are vulnerable if their environment is disturbed. pg 129 The adative strategy employed by the Mlabri to extract resources from the environment most efficiently is continually to rearrange themselves in space to try to conform to the preexisting spatial organization of the plant and animal resources they wish to exploit
