Abstract: Archaeological fieldwork was undertaken on Nissan and Pinipir (Pinipel), atolls of the North Solomons Province in July and August 1985 as part of the Lapita Homeland Project. Further fieldwork on Nissan in June and July 1986 was funded by the North Solomons Provincial Government and the Bougainville Copper Foundation, and in July 1987 by the Australian National University (ANU) Department of Prehistory. A total of just over 12 weeks fieldwork has been undertaken on Nissan, 77 sites have been recorded, and eight of these have been tested by excavation.
