Abstract:	Excavations at a number of cave and rock shlter sites at Pha Phen, Bolikhamsay province, in Lao PDR, have yielded evidence of Neolithic, and perhaps Paleolithic, human habitation. The most significant find comprises a fully intact skeleton dated before 6190±40 BP. Other deposits have yielded a collection of pottery, shell beads and butchered animal bones indicative of the Neolithic practice of secondary burial. Significantly, another two rock shelters have also yielded a conchoidal flake and polished stone tools. Several other cave sites have been identified in the surrounding area which could be subjected to a detailed archaeological investigation.
