Prehistoric archaeology in Cambodia is still growing despite a long tradition of scholarship since the nineteenth century. Though the interest in Angkor and its culture is great, not so much has been done for searching the roots of this world's great civilization. Researches on the Neolithic, Bronze and Early Iron Ages (up to 500 CE) of Cambodia - which we shall call 'Cambodian Prehistory' - helped scholars understand the reasons for the emergence of Angkor Cambodia, as well as Mekong-Tonle Sap civilization in general. Among the main artifacts of Bronze and Iron Periods known in Cambodia, as well as in Indo-Chine, there are various beads, made from different materials (mainly different kinds of stones, glass and metal). Stone and later glass beads became a distinctive part of Cambodian and Indochinese Bronze Period and especially the Iron Age. This paper reviews the evidence of 'prehistoric' beads in Cambodia.
