| Abstract: | The Palaeozoic to early Mesozoic geology of Thailand can be interpreted using the concept of tectonostratigraphic terranes. The central Sukhothai Terrane amalgamated with the Indosinian Terrane during the Permian, forming the Nan-Uttaradit-Sa Kaeo suture. These amalgamated terranes then collided with the Shan-Thai Terrane during the Triassic. Underthrusting of the amalgamated Sukhothai/Indosinian Terrane by the eastern margin of the Shan-Thai Terrane generated metamorphic core complexes and associated S-type plutons. The boundary between the Shan-Thai and Sukhothai/Indosinian terranes is interpreted to be a cryptic suture, correlated with the Bentong-Raub suture in peninsular Malaysia. |
