Abstract:	It is now approaching 50 years since our Association as an organisation of regional archaeology, known from 1953 to 1976 as the Far Eastern Prehistory Association (FEPA) and subsequently as the Indo-Pacific Prehistory Association (IPPA). Over that period it has undergone some significant changes, of which its change of name is in part a reflection. This essay is an attempt to explore the nature of those changes, before memory of them fades with the people who took part in them.
