Methods of water management (sensu lato) in early Cambodia are examined from the perspective of aerial photography. The form and operation of two types of structures, irregular and rectilinear, are described using examples from the region of Lovea, Central Cambodia. Through comparison with similar features at Angkor, the nearby 9th-14th century AD Khmer capital, and in North-East Thailand, it is concluded that the irregular and rectangular Lovea systems form a chronological and functional progression.
