Title: Recent archaeological discoveries in peninsular Malaysia (1983-1985)
Date: 1987
Source: Journal of the Malaysian Branch of the Royal Asiatic Society
Abstract: Over the past few years, archaeological activities in Peninsular Malaysia have been sporadic, concentrating on rescue excavations and explorations. This has basically been due to a lack of financial allocations. Nevertheless, between 1983 and 1985 a new development occurred, namely the first underwater archaeology in Malaysia. This began in the Melaka estuary and later continued on the wreck of a Dutch East Indiaman – the Risdam – in Mersing, Johor. Like previous reports on archaeological discoveries in this journal, this report is presented according to states rather than chronology.
