Abstract:	As one of the most significant events in human evolution and cultural development, Homo erectus groups spread from the original human cradle, possibly in Africa, to the remainder of the Old World. East Asia is a critical region in understanding this spread because not only is it possessed of a great many human fossils and archaeological records, but it is also situated at the opposite end of the Old World from Africa. In this paper the authors give an account of recent research on early human occupation in China (Fig. 1) and discuss some problems.
