Abstract:	Ten teeth from five fossil hominid individuals from Java have been examined by environmental mode scanning electronic microscope. Eighty-eight images have been analysed, in order to reconstruct ancient diet and palaeoenvironmental changes. Scratch orientation analysis indicates preferences in ancient diet and subsistence. Dental microwear analysis reflects environmental changes, some of which may be recorded in geological and palynological data.
