The paper presents some interim results from an archaeological excavation which was carried out at Xom Oc site, Ly Son island, Quang Ngai province, Central Vietnam. The site had the cultural layer of 1.10m-1.5m depth, which was undisturbed and formed on the basis of sand soil and sea shells. The artifacts found at Xom Oc site typically indicate that it belongs to the Sa Huynh Culture. However, there are hundreds of tools made of shells (Tridacna and Turbo), suggesting that Xom Oc shares characteristics with Xom Con, an earlier culture distributing along the seaside of Central Vietnam. Beside the evidences of settlement, a grave of two adults with rich gifts and an infant jar burial were discovered.
