30 years of development of the Institute of Archaeology is divided by the author into three stages: In Stage 1, from 1968 to 1975, archaeological activities in Vietnam were conducted in conditions of the war. In Stage 2, from 1975 to 1986, marked a new period of development of Vietnamese archaeology. Archaeological discoveries and studies were extended all over country, from the North to the South. In Stage 3, from 1986 to present, archaeology is continuing to develop on the contemporary road of renovation.
