English summary on page 82 as follows: Based on data of early pottery discovered in South China, the author argues that : 1) Early pottery districbuted in far-south provinces of China 2) Coarse pottery tempered sand, made by coiling or paddle-and-anvil method. Firing is bonfire and temperature is low. 3) At least there are two stages of early pottery in South China : --First stage is about 10,000 to 12,000 BP. Cord-marked pottery appeared in the mainland on the basis of the development of gathering and fishing. --Second stage is about 7,000 to 8,000 BP, In inland, besides cord-marked pottery, incised and basket pottery is common. In coastal areas, early came into existence. there was pottery with shell-impressed or finger-nail impressed designs that have never existed in inland.
