The variation of the tooth position can be measured accurately, and orthodontic diagnosis can be based upon mathematical calculations
many methods of analyses of tooth size have been formulated. Pont's, Howes, Bolton's and other formulas are the results of tooth analyses for the caucasoid people, and are familiar in the orthodontic clinics in Indonesia. A brief review of the literature on various analyses of tooth size, specifically the mesiodistal width of the teeth, has been presented. The indonesian region is inhabited by the mongoloid and the Australomelansoid races. Some of their features are influenced by microevolution and racial migration, but they have different dental features from the Caucasoids. It is suggested to test the formulas first among the people in the region where the formulas are to be used to affirm their validity.
