Abstract: This study examines the single species null hypothesis for Asian pre-modern hominids by comparing six mandibular measures from samples of Javanese and Chinese fossils attributed by the dominant hypothesis to Homo erectus. This analysis indicates that the hypothesis is found wanting. The study suggests that the Javanese sample is far too diverse to comply with the variation expected for a single hominid species.
