| Title: | From skeletons to fingerprints - STR typing of ancient DNA |
| Date: | 2000 |
| Source: | Ancient Biomolecules |
| Abstract: | A decade of DNA typing of degraded human material is reviewed. Attention is focussed on autosomal and Y-chromosomal short-tandem-repeat (STR) typing of prehistoric human skeletal material. Characteristics of STR typing of degraded DNA - such as the generation of shadow bands and allelic dropouts -- are discussed by including results from the most recent investigations. Additionally, the influence of DNA extraction procedures on the success of STR typing is described. |
