| Abstract: | Moated settlements found in central Thailand represent traces of administrative hierarchy from the 6th to the 9th century. It is unclear whether a single state-level polity or a series of smaller competing polities were present. Settlement size hierarchy, rank-size distribution and geographical location suggest the settlements were integrated into a single regional economic system by the end of the 9th century. |
