Several granite cyst graves, also known as "slab graves," were recorded in the Bernam Valley and its vicinity in Peninsular Malaysia between 1895 and the 1950s. Finds recovered from those graves include glass and stone beads, socketed iron tools and fragments of earthenware pottery. Between 1992 and 1998 the author excavated eight recently-located stone cist graves. Several radiocarbon dates and one thermoluminescence date point to a chronology centred on the early first millennium AD. These chronometric dates are assessed in the context of the chronology to be preferred from distinctive, typologically dated artefacts in the graves, which include a decorated bronze artefact and Tang Chinese ceramics.
