| Abstract: |
This is an account of an ethnographic study conducted in the region of Kebumen, south central Java, in three periods totalling 15 months between 1979 and 1983. The principal object of study is not the village but the market-place, and the author's goal is not to describe a particular market-place but to refine previous models of peasant marketing behaviour, in particular that of R. Cassady which has been drawn on by other anthropologists including Clifford Geertz |
