Abstract: Discusses the links between weaving and bark cloth technologies in the ISEA/Pacific region and the migrations of Austronesian settlers. Though languages and bark cloth are rooted in Taiwan, loom technologies in ISEA derive directly from the Asian mainland. Distinct patterns exist today in techniques such as ikat, that reflect ancient cultural distinctions and patterns of demic diffusion.
