Abstract:	Although knowledge of West Sumatra's pre- and proto-history is still rudimentary, the rediscovery of these sites first reported nearly 50 years ago suggests that such a reconstruction will be complex. This will only be fitting, given the complexity of the culture of the people who now inhabit the province of West Sumatra.
