| Abstract: |
This book, posthumously published, is a welcome addition to the academic literature on Buddhist meditation. Skill-fully edited into its final form by SarahShaw, after Lance Cousins’s death in 2015, it contains eleven chapters accompanied by additional material supplied by the editor: an introduction containing autobiographical elements and personal reflections plus appendices on sources and references. Although the focus is on texts and practices transmitted within the Theravada tradition, the title does not entirely capture the book’s breadth.
