Abstract:	This paper discusses the ongoing burial tradition in Toraja community. Some forms of burial (liang) and burial container (erong) has already known since prehistoric times and still used until now. Through archaeological study, we know that the differences in burials types were influenced by several factors such as development time, geographic, and role in the community. This role is closely related to the belief of their ancestors, social stratification, and social legitimation. All are ruled in a belief system which called as aluk todolo or alukta.
