There is evidence for a large scale copper production in the Lopburi area of Central Thailand, dating from late prehistoric times to the Dvaravati period. During the survey of the area in 1985, the earliest sites identified included those in the Wong Prachan valley, where extensive mining and smelting activities took place. Subsequent analysis of finds from these sites, including ore, slag and artifacts, has been used to indicate the level of sophistication of the metallurgical processes being employed.
