Abstract:	Early archaeological sites on the Tenasserim coast of Myanmar are little known in Western literature and in this paper we review the evidence for some early historic walled cities in this region. The article draws on modern historical and archaeological research and traditional history, knowledge and myths in order to provide a rounded account of early Dawei.
