Abstract:	Following the discovery of inscriptions, sculpture and architectural remains of brick and stone early in the 20th century, Go Thap has been recognised as an important religious center of the Oc Eo Culture. According to recent archaeological survey and exploration it also appeared to have a large occupation area. From the end of 2000, the Vietnam Institute of Archaeology has conducted excavations at the southeastern foot of the Minh Su, a small mound in the area. A settlement-cum-cemetery site of the Oc Eo Culture was unearthed with abundant pottery and artifacts. A second and third season of excavation continued in 2002 and 2003 the better to understand the characteristics of the site and the development of pottery, especially those of typical of the Oc Eo culture. Information from this site will be valuable for the study not only of the Oc Eo Culture in south Vietnam, but also for the whole area of Southeast Asia during the first millennium AD.
