Abstract:	The Franco-Indonesian cooperation programme of 2002-2006 was designed to explore those proto-historical developments that were disregarded during the first century of archaeological and historical research in Southeast Asia. At a regional level, it endeavours to bring to light, to document and to analyse archaeological data from sites in Kabupaten Krawang, West Java which are, in part, contemporary with a neighbouring centre of one of the first states of Java known as Tarumanagara from the 5th century CE inscriptions at Bogor and Tugu. Stone statuary is oddly missing on these sites, but the stupa-like monuments and finds of votive tablets clearly indicate that these monuments were Buddhist. The clearing of some of the temples has also brought to light some remarkable stucco decoration.
