Abstract:	Burials are common in late prehistoric sites on the Khorat Plateau in Thailand. A review of these in the Nam Phong piedmont zone between 2000 BC to AD 300 shows that the inhabitants shared a common subsistence basis, lifestyle and cosmology, and the region was linked by active trade networks. However, in the Nam Phong area and perhaps elsewhere on the Plateau local communities expressed their cultural identity through the use of distinctively decorated funerary ceramics.
