Abstract:	Elephants have long played an important role among the Mon-Khmer people and the discovery of a prehistoric bronze elephant with a rider in a burial in Battambang Province, Cambodia demonstrates the prehistoric origin of the use of managed elephants and their role in Khmer ancestor worship.
