Abstract:	Collections of Chinese, or apparent Chinese coins are found in many countries of Southeast Asia and are witness to the adoption of the Chinese numerical system from the 7th to 8th centuries AD. In order to make the best use of these hoards, especially for dating, it is necessary to take into account recent work in Chinese numismatics for too often the use of old handbooks leads to dating errors. Some coins such as wuzhu and kai yuan were issued over several hundred years and there are also many Vietnamese and Japanese copies of Chinese coin issues.
