| Abstract: | The special relationship between the Communist Parties of Laos and Vietnam has greatly influenced the way that historical relations between the two countries are portrayed in their respective historiographies. This chapter examines the historical narrative constructed in post-1975 Laos to evaluate its general picture of pre-colonial Lao-Vietnamese relations. It draws on sources from the Vietnamese side to shed light on specific ways in which the Lao sources have sanitized, modified, or emphasized specific aspects of the historical record. |
