Abstract: The north mountainous areas of Vietnam with Lai Chau, Son La, Hoa Binh, Lao Cai, Yen Bai, Ha Giang, Tuyen Quang, Cao Bang, Bac Can and Thai Nguyen provinces are very large with rich natural conditions and variformed environment. Therefore, it is taken for granted if numerous types of prehistoric cultures existed in these areas. During the Neolithic there were not only the two Hoa Binh and Bac Son cultures in the early stage but also in the late stage, there were the Ha Giang (1989), Mai Pha (1996) cultures. According to the author, there have so far been enough basic factors to distinguish a Late Neolithic-Early Metal Age culture in the mountainous area of Tay Bac (Northwest): The Ban Mon culture.
