Phu Khanh bronze drum was discovered from the black earth mixed with sand and wet mud in the depth of 70-150 cm at the 6th hamlet, Vinh Tan village, Tan Uyen distric, Song Be province. After restoration, the drum have these measurements: tympan diameter 57 cm, 39 cm height. This is a Dong son drum (or Heger I): Swollen shoulder, slender trunk and double plaited-rope handles. Decorative motifs are available on the tympan and the mantle. The tympan, besides the star with 10 rays, has 7 decorated circles. The fourth one has 4 long-beak birds with long tails flying counterclockwise. The other designs on the tympan and the mantle including spirals, dotted circles, comb-teeth . . . charactering the Dong Son drum type BII such as Ngoc Lu II, Cuu Cao, Thiet Cuong, Dinh Cong, Dong Son . . . with the dates from 2,300-2,100 BP. Apart from the drum, there was a discovery of a square bronze piece and a hollow piece of wood with C14 date: 2,100 +/- 40BP.
