If the delta of Bac bo is divided into 3 zones: the upper, the middle and the lower, CoLoa is located at the end of the north-west upper zone in the later quadrilateral: Ca Lo river (north) Thien Duc, Dau-Duong (South), Red River (west), Cau river (east), and Thiep stream flowing through the ancient citadel. Data of archaeology, linguistics, folkloric culture . . . along the banks of the rivers mentioned above have proven that: about 4,000 BP, when Lo Loa area hadn't been deposited, ancient Viets occupied this plains. With the tradition of fishing and hunting, rice-farming, especially the development of metallurgy and metal manufacture. There is a motive force for the development of Co Loa economy and society, tending toward the concentration in order to form the greatest economic and politic centre in the formation process of the primitive state Au Lac of Kinh An Duong.
