The excavation at archaeological site at Mai Pha (Lang Son prov.) in 1996 helped to set up the Mai Pha culture. In addition, a great deal of data including quadrangular axes and adzes were collected in the excavation. The authors, also the excavators of this site, carried out measurement, calculation and classification of the collection. Some characteristics, synchronic and diachronic relations were first defined. The excavation was also set in the correlation with the other collections of the same type in the Phung Nguyen, Hoa Loc, Ha Long cultures. From that the similarities of cultures and traditions were better cleared up.
