English summary on page 70 as follows: Stelae made of wood, clay, cement and stone in particular are valuable relics in abundance. Before 1945, one may say that stelae were found in every locality, of every date and dynasty. From the Court to the localities, stelae were erected to commend good deeds, prevent evils, educate people of that time and subsequent generations. The collections of epitaphs before the Revolution in August 1945 might be treated as first phase. In that phase, nothing much had been achieved. Since August 1945, the second phase began and yielded quite good results, contributing much materials for the study of histor, politics, economy, society, customs, culture and art of Vietnam. However, the collection, preservation and study of epitaphs are far from satisfactory, requiring special attention to planning and organization, from Central to local level.
