Abstract:	This book possesses several important virtues. The better essays accurately depict the maelstrom of changes which have altered Southeast Asian urban centres during the past twenty years. A particular strength of the volume is that most authors grapple with the effects of tourism and internal colonialism. Tourism is now the largest income generator in many parts of the region, but detailed studies of tourism, especially of the intra-Asian variety, and the effects of property development, are still scarce.
