Abstract:	Since 1985 excavations and surveys have been made in the Nam Mae Ping valley of northwest Thailand by the French Archaeological Mission under the direction of M. Santoni. Hoabinhian lithic material from these surveys was studied by the author both in a typo-technological and experimental way. This permits us to establish a terminology well adapted both to the material and the ways in which the lithic tools were once used.
