So far, Thanh Den site (Me Linh district, Vinh Phu province) has been investigated and excavated four times with the area of 145.5 m2 on the total area of 24,217 m2. A lot of bronze and stone artifacts, have been discovered, including tools, weapons, household goods . . . Researchers on Thanh Den site state that there is only one cultural layer about 1m thick, which is a settlement as well as a cemetery of the Dong Dau Culture. It is also a centre for casting bronze. New data reveals that the inhabitants at Thanh den underwent two stages of the Dong Dau Culture: In the first stage, stone tools were rather available
the features of the Phung Nguyen Culture were rather clear
bronze tools were of low rate. In the next stage, bronze tools were abundant
stone tools were less in number
the elements of the Go Mun Culture appeared. Burials of the Dong Dau Culture in Thanh Den show that there were two types of burying: single bury and double one in flexed position. The study of Thanh Den site lets us know a new perception about the Dong Dau Culture and its relation to the pre-Dong Son Cultures in Red River Valley.
